“Utha Do Parda Dikha Do Chehra” is one of the most spiritually charged Naats by Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Alahazrat). In this Kalaam, the poet expresses an intense longing to see the blessed face of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, seeking his aid during the trials of the grave and the fear of the Day of Judgment. Below is the complete version featuring the restored verses from the authentic printed editions.
Utha Do Parda Dikha Do Chehra Ke Noor-e-Baari Hijaab Mein Hai
Zamana Tareek Ho Raha Hai Ke Mehr Kab Se Niqaab Mein Hai
Lift the veil and show your blessed face, for the Divine Light is hidden within it,
The era is becoming dark; how long has the Sun ﷺ been behind the veil?
Jali Jali Bu Se Uss Ki Paida Hai Sozish e Ishq e Chashm e Wala
Kabaab e Ahu Mein Bhi Na Paaya Maza Jo Dil Ke Kabaab Mein Hai
From that burnt fragrance, the intense burning of the Master’s love is evident,
Even the roast of a deer lacks the flavor found in the ‘roast’ of a lover’s heart.
Unhi Ki Boo Maaya-e-Suman Hai Unhi Ka Jalwa Chaman Chaman Hai
Unhi Se Gulshan Mahak Rahe Hain Unhi Ki Rangat Gulaab Mein Hai
His scent is the essence of jasmine; his radiance makes every garden bloom,
It is through him the gardens are fragrant; the rose borrows its hue from him.
Teri Jalo Mein Hai Maah e Taiba Hilaal Har Marg o Zindagi Ka
Hayat e Jaan Ka Rikab Mein Hai Mamat e Aada Ka Dab Mein Hai
In your procession, O Moon of Taiba, is the crescent of every life and death,
The life of the soul is in your stirrup, while the death of enemies is in your scabbard.
Siyah Libasaan e Daar e Dunya o Sabz Poshaan e Arsh e Aala
Har Aik Hai Unke Karam Ka Pyasa Yeh Faiz Unki Janab Mein Hai
From the dark-clothed inhabitants of this world to the green-robed dwellers of the High Throne,
Every single one thirsts for his mercy; such is the grace in his presence.
Wo Gul Hain Lab Haaye Nazuk Unke Hazaron Jhardte Hain Phool Jin Se
Gulaab Gulshan Mein Dekhe Bulbul Yeh Dekh Gulshan Gulaab Mein Hai
His delicate lips are like flowers from which thousands of blossoms fall,
The nightingale saw the rose in the garden; come see the entire garden within this Rose ﷺ.
Jali Hai Soz e Jigar Se Jaan Tak Hai Taalib e Jalwa e Mubarak
Dikha Do Wo Lab Ke Aab e Haiwan Ka Lutf Jinke Khitaab Mein Hai
The soul is burnt from the heart’s heat; it yearns for your blessed vision,
Show those lips, for the delight of the Water of Life is in your speech.
Kharay Hain Munkir Nakeer Sar Par Na Koi Haami Na Koi Yaawar
Bata Do Aa Kar Mere Payambar Ke Mushkil Jawaab Mein Hai
The Angels of the Grave loom over me; I have no supporter, no helper,
Come and guide me, O my Prophet ﷺ, for there is difficulty in the reckoning.
Khuda-e-Qahhar Hai Ghazab Par Khulay Hain Badkaariyon Ke Daftar
Bacha Lo Aa Kar Shafi-e-Mahshar Tumhara Bandah Azaab Mein Hai
The Wrathful Lord is in majesty; the scrolls of my sins are wide open,
Save me, O Intercessor of the Resurrection, your servant is in distress.
Kareem Aisa Mila Ke Jis Ke Khulay Hain Haath Aur Bharay Khazanay
Batao Ay Mufliso Ke Phir Kyun Tumhara Dil Iztiraab Mein Hai
We have found such a Generous One whose hands are open and treasures full,
Tell me, O destitute ones, why then are your hearts in turmoil?
Gunah Ki Tareekiyan Yeh Chhayin Umand Ke Kaali Ghatayen Aayin
Khuda Ke Khursheed Mehr Farma Ke Zarra Bas Iztiraab Mein Hai
The darkness of sins has spread like surging black clouds,
O Sun of God! Show your mercy, for this humble speck is in agony.
Kareem Apne Karam Ka Sadqa La’eem-e-BeKas Ko Na Sharma
Tu Aur Raza Se Hisaab Lena Raza Bhi Koi Hisaab Mein Hai
O Generous One, by your mercy, do not put this helpless wretch to shame,
You, taking account from Raza? Does Raza even count for anything in the reckoning?

Spiritual Echoes: The Vision of Mercy
The longing for the Prophetic vision and intercession resonates across these spiritual masterpieces:
Maulana Jami : Sarapa
Alahazrat’s description of delicate lips from which flowers fall finds a classical Persian parallel in Jami’s praise of the ‘Aqeeq-e-Yamani’ smile.
Alahazrat : Shafaat
The desperate cry for the ‘Shafi-e-Mahshar’ in the face of Divine Wrath is the core theme of this heart-rending plea for protection from the fire.
Alahazrat : Bulbul
The Bulbul’s realization that the entire ‘Gulshan’ is within this Rose ﷺ is echoed in Alahazrat’s ‘Hairat’ (amazement) at the unparalleled beauty of the Beloved.
Amir Khusro : Qamar
Alahazrat’s ‘Maah-e-Taiba’ (Moon of Taiba) aligns with Khusro’s declaration that the Prophetic countenance is far more radiant than the moon itself.
Pir Naseer : Lahad
The plea for the Prophet ﷺ to come and aid in the answering of ‘Munkir Nakeer’ finds its fulfillment in Pir Naseer’s description of the vision in the grave.
Hasan Raza : Qismat
The ‘Hilaal’ (Crescent) imagery in Alahazrat’s verse is echoed by Hasan Raza, linking the radiance of the Prophet’s ﷺ face to the prosperity of one’s destiny.
Pir Naseer : Meezan
The final humility—asking if ‘Raza’ even counts in the reckoning—is comforted by the fact that the Master ﷺ himself oversees the scales of Justice.
