تیری آنکھوں کا یہ میخانہ سلامت ساقی
مست رکھتا ہے ترا بادہ ء سرجوش مجھے
Teri Aankhon Ka Yeh Maikhana Salamat Saqi
Mast Rakhta Hai Tera Baada-e-Sarjosh Mujhe
May the tavern of your eyes remain forever, O Saqi;
Your zealous wine keeps me in a state of perpetual intoxication.

اور کچھ دیر میں شاید نہ رہے ہوش مجھے
Hichkiyan Maut Ki Aane Lagi Ab To Aa Ja
Aur Kuch Der Mein Shayad Na Rahe Hosh Mujhe
The hiccups of death have begun, come to me now;
In a short while, I may no longer remain conscious.
کب کا رسوا میرے اعمال مجھے کر دیتے
میری قسمت کہ ملا تجھ سا خطا پوش مجھے
Kab Ka Ruswa Meray Aamaal Mujhay Kar Detay
Meri Qismat Ke Mila Tujh Sa Khata-Posh Mujhay
My deeds would have disgraced me long ago;
It is my fortune that I found a ‘Veiler of Faults’ like You.
کس کی آہٹ سے یہ سویا ہوا دل جاگ اُٹھا
کر دیا کس کی صدا نے ہمہ تن گوش مجھے
Kis Ki Aahat Se Yeh Soya Hua Dil Jaag Utha
Kar Diya Kis Ki Sada Ne Hamah Tan Gosh Mujhe
Whose footstep awakened this sleeping heart?
Whose voice has made me all ears (entirely attentive)?
یاد کرتا رہا تسبیح کے دانوں پہ جسے
کردیا ہے اُسی ظالم نے فراموش مجھے
Yaad Karta Raha Tasbeeh Ke Danon Pe Jisay
Kar Diya Hai Usi Zaalim Ne Faramosh Mujhe
The one I kept remembering on the beads of my rosary;
That ‘cruel one’ has forgotten me.
ایک دو جام سے نیّت مری بھر جاتی تھی
تری آنکھوں نے بنایا ہے بلانوش مجھے
Ek Do Jaam Se Niyat Meri Bhar Jaati Thi
Teri Aankhon Ne Banaya Hai Bala-Nosh Mujhe
I used to be satisfied with just a cup or two;
But Your eyes have turned me into a heavy drinker (of spiritual wine).
جیتے جی مجھ کو سمجھتے تھے جو اک بارِ گراں
قبر تک لے کے گئے وہ بھی سرِ دوش مجھے
Jeetay Jee Mujh Ko Samajhtay Thay Jo Ik Baar-e-Garaan
Qabr Tak Le Ke Gaye Woh Bhi Sar-e-Dosh Mujhay
Those who considered me a heavy burden while I was alive;
Even they carried me on their shoulders to the grave.
مجھ پہ کُھلنے نہیں دیتا وہ حقیقت میری
حَجلہ ء ذات میں رکھتا ہے وہ رُو پوش مجھے
Mujh Pe Khulne Nahi Deta Woh Haqeeqat Meri
Hajla-e-Zaat Mein Rakhta Hai Woh Roo-Posh Mujhay
He does not let my own reality be revealed to me;
He keeps me hidden within the ‘Chamber of Self’.
صحبتِ میکدہ یاد آئے گی سب کو برسوں
نام لے لے کے مرا روئیں گے مے نوش مجھے
Sohbat-e-Maikada Yaad Aaye Gi Sab Ko Barson
Naam Le Le Ke Mera Roein Ge Mai-Nosh Mujhe
The company of the tavern will be remembered by all for years;
Fellow drinkers will weep, calling out my name.
بُوئے گُل مانگنے آئے مرے ہونٹوں سے مہک
چومنے کو ترے مل جائیں جو پاپوش مجھے
Bu-e-Gul Maangne Aaye Meray Honton Se Mehak
Choomne Ko Teray Mil Jayein Jo Paaposh Mujhe
The fragrance of the rose would come seeking scent from my lips;
If only I could get Your footwear (Naalain) to kiss.
زندگی کے غم و آلام کا مارا تھا میں
ماں کی آغوش لگی قبر کی آغوش مجھے
Zindagi Ke Gham-o-Aalaam Ka Maara Tha Mein
Maan Ki Aaghosh Lagi Qabr Ki Aaghosh Mujhay
I was a victim of life’s sorrows and pains;
The embrace of the grave felt to me like the embrace of a mother.
دے بھی سکتا ہوں نصیر اینٹ کا پتھر سے جواب
وہ تو رکھّا ہے مرے ظرف نے خاموش مجھے
De Bhi Sakta Hun Naseer Eent Ka Pathar Se Jawab
Woh To Rakha Hai Meray Zarf Ne Khamosh Mujhay
I too can answer a brick with a stone, O Naseer;
But it is my inner capacity (patience) that has kept me silent.
کوئی کرتا ہے نصیر آج مجبورِ فغاں
وہ تو رکھّا ہے مرے ظرف نے خاموش مجھے
Koi Karta Hai Naseer Aaj Majboor-e-Fughaan
Woh To Rakha Hai Meray Zarf Ne Khamosh Mujhay
Someone compels Naseer to lament and cry out today;
But it is my inner capacity (patience) that has kept me silent.
Hikmat-e-Naseer: Bas Yahi Soch Ke
- Faramosh (فراموش): Forgotten / Out of mind.
- Baada-e-Sarjosh (بادہ ء سرجوش): Strong, overflowing wine; intense spiritual passion.
