“Nigah-e-Lutf Ke Umeedwar Hum Bhi Hain” is a soulful petition (Istighasa) by Maulana Hasan Raza Khan, the younger brother of Alahazrat. This Naat from his collection Zauq-e-Naat is celebrated for its deep humility and the iconic declaration that true royalty lies in the dust of the Prophet’s ﷺ blessed sandals.
The Restless Heart
Nigah-e-Lutf Ke Umeedwar Hum Bhi Hain
Liye Hue Yeh Dil-e-Be-Qaraar Hum Bhi Hain
We too are hopeful for a glance of your grace;
Carrying this restless heart, we too are here.
Hamare Dast-e-Tamanna Ki Laaj Bhi Rakhna
Tere Faqiron Mein Ay Shehar-Yaar Hum Bhi Hain
Keep the honor of our hands stretched in desire;
O Sovereign of the City, we too are among your beggars.
The Dust of the Path
Idhar Bhi Tausan-e-Aqdas Ke Do Qadam Jalwe
Tumhari Raah Mein Musht-e-Ghubar Hum Bhi Hain
Let the sacred steed cast its radiance this way for a few steps;
In your path, we too are a mere handful of dust.
Khila Do Ghuncha-e-Dil Sadqa Baad-e-Daman Ka
Umeedwar-e-Naseem-e-Bahar Hum Bhi Hain
Make the bud of my heart bloom by the grace of your cloak’s breeze;
We too are hopeful seekers of the spring zephyr.
The Crown of the Humble
Tumhari Ek Nigah-e-Karam Mein Sab Kuch Hai
Paray Huay To Sar-e-Rah-Guzar Hum Bhi Hain
Everything is contained within a single glance of your mercy;
We too are lying here, waiting by the wayside.
The Crown of the Humble
Jo Sar Pe Rakhne Ko Mil Jaye Naalain-e-Paak Huzoor ﷺ
To Phir Kahein Ge Ke Haan Tajdaar Hum Bhi Hain
If we could obtain the blessed pair of sandals of the Prophet ﷺ to place upon our heads;
Only then would we declare, “Yes, we too are crowned Sovereigns (Tajdaar).”
The Cry of the Beggars
Yeh Kis Shahenshah-e-Waala Ka Sadqa Batta Hai
Ke Khusrawon Mein Pari Hai Pukaar Hum Bhi Hain
Which Exalted Emperor’s charity is being distributed?
For even among kings, there is a cry: “We too are seekers!”
Hamari Bigri Bani Un Ke Ikhtiyar Mein Hai
Supurd Unhin Ke Hain Sab Karobar Hum Bhi Hain
The mending of our broken state is in his hands;
To him are entrusted all our affairs—and we ourselves.
The Final Devotion
Hasan Hai Jin Ki Sakhawat Ki Dhoom Aalam Mein
Unhin Ke Tum Bhi Ho Ik Reeza-Khwar Hum Bhi Hain
O Hasan! He whose generosity is celebrated throughout the world;
To him you belong, and we too are but dependents on his crumbs.
