Nami Danam Che Manzil Bood (I know not what place it was) is one of the most famous and spiritually profound Persian poems by Amir Khusro. This powerful Naat and Arifana Kalam describes an intense, divine spiritual experience—a celestial gathering (Mehfil) where the poet perceives the presence of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Similar to his other masterpieces like Zee Haal-e-Miskeen, this poem captures the essence of Ishq-e-Haqiqi. It serves as a timeless testament to Divine Love, portraying a state where the devotee is completely lost in the radiant presence of the Beloved ﷺ.
نمی دانم چہ منزل بود شب جائے کہ من بودم
بہر سو رقص بسمل بود شب جائے کہ من بودم

Ba Har Soo Raqs-e-Bismil Bood Shab Ja’ay Keh Man Boodam
I know not what was the destination (or state) where I was last night,
All around, there was the dance of the half-slaughtered (lovers of God), where I was last night.
پر ی پیکر نگاری ، سرو قد ، لالہ رخساری
سراپا آفت دل بود شب جائے کہ من بودم
Pari Paikar Nigaare, Sarv Qad, Laala Rukhsaare
Sarapa Aafat-e-Dil Bood Shab Ja’ay Keh Man Boodam
A fairy-faced beloved, with a cypress-like height and tulip cheeks,
He was the complete torment (or delight) of the heart, where I was last night.
رقیباں گوش بر آواز ، او در ناز, من ترساں
سخن گفتن، چہ مشکل بود شب جائے کہ من بودم
Raqeebaan Gosh Bar Awaaz, Oo Dar Naaz, Man Tarsaan
Sukhan Guftan, Cheh Mushkil Bood Shab Ja’ay Keh Man Boodam
The rivals were listening keenly to the voice, He (the Beloved) was in charm, and I was fearful,
To utter a word was so difficult, where I was last night.
خدا خود میر مجلس بود اندر لامکاں خسرو
محمد شمع محفل بود شب جائے کہ من بودم
Khuda Khud Meer-e-Mehfil Bood Andar Laa Makan Khusro
Muhammad (ﷺ) Shama-e-Mehfil Bood Shab Ja’ay Keh Man Boodam
God Himself was the Master of the Gathering in that spaceless (Laa Makan) abode, O Khusro,
And Muhammad (ﷺ) was the Lamp of the Assembly, where I was last night.
