“Dar Dil e Muslim Maqam e Mustafa Ast” is a foundational Persian masterpiece from Allama Iqbal’s first philosophical work, Asrar-e-Khudi (Secrets of the Self). In these verses, Iqbal establishes that the very honor and existence of a Muslim are intrinsically tied to the love and name of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
The Abode of the Prophet ﷺ
در دل مسلم مقام مصطفیٰ است
آبروئے ما زِ نام مصطفیٰ است
Dar Dil e Muslim Maqam e Mustafa Ast
Aabroo-e-Ma Ze Naam e Mustafa Ast
The heart of a Muslim is the abode of Muhammad ﷺ;
Our honor and prestige are entirely due to the name of Mustafa ﷺ.
The Sacredness of His Dwelling
طور موجے از غبار خانہ اش
کعبہ را بیت الحرم کاشانہ اش
Toor Maujay Az Ghubar-e-Khana Ash
Kaaba Ra Bait-ul-Haram Kashana Ash
Mount Sinai is but a wave of dust from his house;
For the Kaaba itself, his dwelling place is the true Bait-ul-Haram.
Beyond Time and Eternity
کمتر از آنے ز اوقاتش، ابد
کاسب افزائش از ذاتش ابد
Kamtar Az Aan-ay Ze Auqaat-ash, Abad
Kaasib-e-Afzayish Az Zaat-ash Abad
Eternity (Abad) is less than a single moment of his time;
Eternity itself gains its expansion and increase from his noble essence.
