Is his face the day, or the sun of the sky? It is neither this, nor that;
Are his tresses the night, or the musk of Khata? It is neither this, nor that.

Mumkin Mein Yeh Qudrat Kahan Wajib Mein Abdiyat Kahan

Where does ‘Possibility’ have such power? Where does ‘Necessity’ have such servanthood?
I am bewildered; to call him either is an error—he is neither this, nor that.

Haq Yeh Ke Hain Abd-e-Ilah Aur Aalam-e-Imkan Ke Shah
Barzakh Hain Woh Sirr-e-Khuda Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

The truth is he is the Servant of Allah and the King of the universe;
He is the Link (Barzakh) and the Secret of God—neither just this, nor just that.

Bulbul Ne Gul Un Ko Kaha Qumri Ne Sarv-e-Jaan Faza
Hairat Ne Jhunjhla Kar Kaha Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

The nightingale called him a flower; the dove called him a life-bestowing cypress;
Bewilderment, frustrated, spoke up: “He is neither this, nor that!”

Khorsheed Tha Kis Zor Par Kya Badh Ke Chamka Tha Qamar
Be-Parda Jab Woh Rukh Hua Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

The sun was so powerful, and the moon shone so brightly;
But when his face was unveiled, they both became ‘neither this, nor that.’

ڈر تھا کہ عصیاں کی سزا اب ہو گی یا روز جزا
دی ان کی رحمت نے صدا یہ بھی نہیں وہ بھی نہیں

Dar Tha Ke Isiyan Ki Saza Ab Hogi Ya Roz-e-Jaza
Di Unki Rehmat Ne Sada Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

Fear whispered: will the penalty for sins be now, or on Judgment Day?
His mercy called out: “It shall be neither this, nor that!”

Koi Hai Nazaan Zuhd Par Ya Husn-e-Tauba Hai Supar
Yan Hai Faqat Teri Ata Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

Some take pride in their piety, others use repentance as a shield;
But here, we rely only on your bounty—neither on this, nor on that.

دن لہو میں کھونا تجھے شب صبح تک سونا تجھے
شرم نبی خوف خدا یہ بھی نہیں وہ بھی نہیں

Din Lahve Mein Khona Tujhe Shab Subah Tak Sona Tujhe
Sharm-e-Nabi Khauf-e-Khuda Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

Wasting your days in play and sleeping your nights away until dawn;
Neither do you have shame before the Prophet, nor fear of God.

رزق خدا کھایا کیا فرمان حق ٹالا کیا
شکر کرم ترس سزا یہ بھی نہیں وہ بھی نہیں

Rizq-e-Khuda Khaya Kiya Farman-e-Haq Taala Kiya
Shukr-e-Karam Tars-e-Saza Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin

You kept consuming God’s provision while shunning His commands;
Neither do you show gratitude for grace, nor do you fear punishment.

Haq Yeh Ke Waasif Hai Tera Yeh Bhi Nahin Woh Bhi Nahin
