The Prayer for Divine Madness
اے عشقِ نبی میرے دل میں بھی سما جانا
مجھ کو بھی محمدؐ کا دیوانہ بنا جانا
Ay Ishq-e-Nabi Mere Dil Mein Bhi Sama Jana
Mujh Ko Bhi Muhammad Ka Deewana Bana Jana
O Love of the Prophet! Come, reside within my heart;
Transform me, too, into a devoted madman of Muhammad ﷺ.
The Hue of Rumi and Jami
وہ رنگ جو رومی پہ جامی پہ چڑھایا تھا
اس رنگ کی کچھ رنگت مجھ پہ بھی چڑھا جانا
Woh Rang Jo Rumi Pe Jami Pe Charhaya Tha
Is Rang Ki Kuch Rangat Mujh Pe Bhi Charha Jana
That spiritual hue which You cast upon Rumi and Jami;
Bestow a touch of that same color upon me as well.
The Gaze of Divine Power
قدرت کی نگاہیں بھی جس چہرے کو تکتی تھیں
اس چہرہِ انور کا دیدار کرا جانا
Qudrat Ki Nigahein Bhi Jis Chehray Ko Takti Thin
Is Chehra-e-Anwar Ka Deedar Kara Jana
The blessed face that even the Eyes of Power (Nature) gazed upon;
Grant me the vision of that luminous and radiant countenance.
The Dream of Union
جس خواب میں ہو جائے دیدارِ نبی حاصل
اے عشق کبھی مجھ کو نیند ایسی سلا جانا
Jis Khwab Mein Ho Jaye Deedar-e-Nabi Hasil
Ay Ishq Kabhi Mujh Ko Neend Aisi Sula Jana
That dream in which the vision of the Prophet ﷺ is attained;
O Love! Slay me into such a slumber at least once.
The Erasing of All Longings
دیدارِ محمدؐ کی حسرت تو رہے باقی
جز اس کے ہر اک حسرت اس دل سے مٹا جانا
Deedar-e-Muhammad Ki Hasrat Tu Rahay Baqi
Juzz Is Ke Har Ik Hasrat Is Dil Se Mita Jana
Let only the longing for Muhammad’s ﷺ vision remain;
Save for that, erase every other worldly desire from this heart.
The Ornament of the Grave
دنیا سے ریاض ہو جب عقبٰی کی طرف جانا
داغِ غمِ احمدؐ سے سینے کو سجا جانا
Duniya Se Riaz Ho Jab Uqba Ki Taraf Jana
Daagh-e-Gham-e-Ahmad Se Seenay Ko Saja Jana
When Riaz departs from this world toward the hereafter;
Decorate his chest with the scar of the love-grief for Ahmad ﷺ.
Insight: The Alchemy of Rang (Color)
Allama Soharwardy makes a powerful intertextual reference to Maulana Rumi and Maulana Jami. In Sufism, “Rang” refers to the spiritual state (Haal) that a master transmits to a seeker. By asking for the same color, the poet is seeking the same level of absolute Fana (annihilation) in the Prophet’s ﷺ love. The final prayer to have the “Daagh” (scar/mark) of this love upon his chest is a classic Sufi theme: that the only true wealth one takes to the grave is the mark of devotion.
