“Jahan Roshan Ast Az Jamal-e-Muhammad” is a majestic Persian Naat by the Sufi master Maulana Abdur Rehman Jami. In these verses, the poet explores the doctrine of Noor-e-Muhammadi, asserting that the entire cosmos derives its radiance from the beauty of the Prophet ﷺ. جہان روشن است از جمالِ محمد
ارم تازہ گشت از وصالِ محمد
Jahan Roshan Ast Az Jamal-e-Muhammad
Iram Taza Gasht Az Visal-e-Muhammad
The world is illuminated by the beauty of Muhammad;
Paradise has been refreshed by the union with Muhammad.
بوصفِ رخش والضحی گشت نازل
چو واللیل بر زلف و خالِ محمد
Ba-Wasf-e-Rukhash Wad-Duha Gasht Nazil
Cho Wal-Layl Bar Zulf-o-Khal-e-Muhammad
In praise of his face, Surah Wad-Duha was revealed;
And Wal-Layl for the tresses and the beauty mark of Muhammad.
محمد بود پادشاہ حقیقی
ھمہ پادشاہان بلالِ محمد
Muhammad Buwad Padshah-e-Haqiqi
Hama Padshahan-e-Bilal-e-Muhammad
Muhammad is the True King;
All other kings are merely the servants (like Bilal) of Muhammad.
خوش آن مجلس و مسجد و خانقاہی
کہ در وی بود قیل و قالِ محمد
Khush Aan Majlis-o-Masjid-o-Khanqahi
Ke Dar Way Buwad Qeel-o-Qal-e-Muhammad
Blessed is that gathering, that mosque, and that Khanqah;
In which the discourse and words of Muhammad are shared.
بروی زمین گشت سردارِ عالم
ہر آنکو شدہ پائمالِ محمد
Baru-e-Zamin Gasht Sardar-e-Aalam
Har Aankay Shuda Pa-e-Maal-e-Muhammad
Upon the face of the earth, he becomes the Leader of the World;
Whosoever is humbled under the feet of Muhammad.
بود در جہاں ہر کسے را خیالی
مرا از ھمہ خوشِ خیال محمد
Buwad Dar Jahan Har Kas-e-Ra Khayali
Mara Az Hama Khush-e-Khayal-e-Muhammad
In this world, everyone has their own preoccupation;
But for me, the most joyful thought is of Muhammad.
بصدق و صفا می تواں گشت جامی
غلامِِ غلامانِ آل محمد
Ba-Sidq-o-Safa Mi Tawan Gasht Jami
Ghulam-e-Ghulaman-e-Aal-e-Muhammad
With sincerity and purity, Jami can now become;
The servant of the servants of the family of Muhammad.
Hikmat-e-Jami: Jahan Roshan Ast
- Jamal (جمال): Divine Beauty; the radiant and graceful countenance of the Prophet ﷺ.
- Iram (ارم): A legendary, celestial garden; often used to symbolize a terrestrial Paradise.
- Wad-Duha (والضحٰی): The Bright Morning Hours; a Quranic reference to the Prophet’s ﷺ face.
- Wal-Layl (واللیل): The Night; a Quranic reference to the Prophet’s ﷺ dark, blessed tresses.
- Qeel-o-Qal (قیل و قال): Discourse, conversation, or the narrations of the Prophetic tradition.
- Khanqahi (خانقاہی): A Sufi lodge or spiritual sanctuary where the seekers gather.
- Pa-e-Maal (پائمال): Literally “under the feet”; signifying total humility and self-effacement in love.
- Sidq-o-Safa (صدق و صفا): Sincerity and Purity; the essential qualities for a true spiritual seeker.
