Kaaba Ka Shouq Hai Na Sanam Khana Chahiye
Janana Chahiye Dar-e-Janana Chahiye

I desire neither the Kaaba nor the idol-house;
I only need the Beloved, I need the Beloved’s threshold.

ساغر کی آرزو ہے نہ پیمانہ چاہیے
بس اک نگاہ مرشد میخانہ چاہیے

Saghar Ki Aarzu Hai Na Paimana Chahiye
Bas Ik Nigah-e-Murshid-e-Maikhana Chahiye

I have no desire for the goblet, nor do I need the cup;
I only need one glance from the Master of the Tavern (Spiritual Guide).

حاضر ہیں میرے جیب و گریباں کی دھجیاں
اب اور کیا تجھے دل دیوانہ چاہیے

Haazir Hain Mere Jaib-o-Gareban Ki Dhajjiyan
Ab Aur Kya Tujhay Dil-e-Deewana Chahiye

The tatters of my pocket and collar are present (as proof of my madness);
What more do you require of this crazy heart?

عاشق نہ ہو تو حسن کا گھر بے چراغ ہے
لیلیٰ کو قیس شمع کو پروانہ چاہیے

Aashiq Na Ho To Husn Ka Ghar Be-Chiragh Hai
Laila Ko Qais, Shama Ko Parwana Chahiye

Without a lover, the abode of Beauty is dark and lightless;
Laila needs Qais (Majnu), and the candle needs the moth.

پروردہ کرم سے تو زیبا نہیں حجاب
مجھ خانہ زاد حسن سے پروانہ چاہیے

Parwarda-e-Karam Se To Zeba Nahin Hijab
Mujh Khana-Zaad-e-Husn Se Parwana Chahiye

Veiling does not suit One who nourishes with such kindness;
Why is a permit required for me, the house-born slave of Beauty?

ہر اک جفائے دوست پہ شکرانہ چاہیے

Shikwa Hai Kufr Ahl-e-Mohabbat Ke Wastay
Har Ik Jafa-e-Dost Pe Shukrana Chahiye

To complain is infidelity for the people of true love;
One must be grateful for every trial sent by the Friend.

کس کو زکوۃ نرگس مستانہ چاہیے

Baada-Kashon Ko Dete Hain Saghar Ye Pooch Kar
Kis Ko Zakat-e-Nargis-e-Mastana Chahiye

“Who is it that needs the alms of these intoxicated eyes?”
