اتھاں میں مٹھڑی نت جان بہ لب
او تاں خوش وسدا وچ ملک عرب
Ithan main muthri nit jaan ba lab
Oo taan khush wasda vich mulk Arab
Here I am, the wretched one, my life constantly at my lips;
While He dwells happily in the land of Arabia.
ہر ویلے یار دی تانگھ لگی
سُنجے سینے سِک دی سانگ لگی
ڈکھی دِلڑی دے ہتھ ٹانگھ لگی
تھئے مل مل سول سمولے سب
Har wele yaar di tangh laggi
Sunje seene sik di saang laggi
Dukhi dilri de hath tangh laggi
Thaye mil mil sol samole sab
At every moment, I am consumed by the longing for the Beloved;
A spear of yearning has pierced my desolate chest.
My grieving heart has found only the support of constant waiting;
All the thorns of affliction have gathered together within me.
تتی تھی جوگن چو دھار پھراں
ہند سندھ پنجاب تے ماڑ پھراں
سنج بار تے شہر بزار پھراں
متاں یار ملم کہیں سانگ سبب
Tatti thi jogan cho dhaar phiraan
Hind Sindh Punjab te Maar phiraan
Sunj baar te shehar bazaar phiraan
Matan yaar milem kahin saang sabab
Becoming a burning mendicant, I wander in all four directions;
I roam through Hind, Sindh, Punjab, and the desert of Maar.
I wander through desolate wastes and city bazaars;
Hoping that by some means or chance, I might find the Beloved.
جیں ڈینہ دا نینہ دے شینہ پُٹھیا
لگی نیش ڈکھاں دی عیش گھٹیا
سر جوبن جوش خروش ہٹیا
سُکھ سڑ گئے مر گئی طرح طرب
Jin deenh da neenh de sheenh puthiya
Laggi neesh dukhan di aish ghatya
Sir joban josh khurosh hatya
Sukh sar gaye mar gayi tarah tarab
Since the day the lion of love mauled me,
The lancet of pain has struck, and worldly pleasure has vanished.
The passion and fervor of youth have departed from my head;
Comforts have burned away, and every form of joy has died.

تیڈے نام تے مفت وکاندڑیاں
تیڈی باندیاں دی میں باندڑیاں
ہے در دیاں کُتیاں نال ادب
Toren dhakre dhore khandariyan
Tede naam te muft wikandariyan
Tedi bandiyan di main bandariyan
Hai dar diyan kutiyan naal adab
Though I endure shoves and stumbles for Your sake;
I am sold for nothing in Your name.
I am the slave of Your slaves;
I even hold the dogs of Your doorstep in high esteem.
واہ سوہنا ڈھولن یار سجن
واہ سانول ہوت حجاز وطن
آدیکھ فرید دا بیت حزن
ہم روز ازل دی تانگھ طلب
Wah sohna dholan yaar sajan
Wah sanwal hot Hijaz watan
Aa dekh Farid da bait-e-hazan
Hum roz-e-azal di tangh talab
Wonderful is the beautiful Beloved, the Friend!
Wonderful is the dark-complexioned master of the land of Hijaz!
Come and see Farid’s house of sorrows;
Since the day of pre-eternity, I have been in this yearning and quest.
